Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC)

Fulltime exempt position. General hours are 10 AM -6 PM, school days.  Other coverage hours as needed for pre-season or late events.  ATC reports to the Director of Athletics.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide athletic training services to student athletes.  This includes assessment, management, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries in accordance with NYS Athletic Training Practice Act. 
  • Act as a liaison between physicians, medical specialists, athletes, parents, school nurse, coaches, athletic director, division directors and academic deans. 
  • Work closely with the school nurse to maintain accurate records of injuries, treatment, and physician’s notes.   Review and inventory health documents using Magnus system to ensure that all athletes have proper physicals and health history updates.
  • Keep coaches informed of all health-related concerns for athletes on team rosters such as allergies, asthma or any other health matter.
  • Maintain established relationship with Columbia University Medical Center and develop relationships with other medical specialists in the city as a resource for student athlete referrals and educational opportunities.
  • Help maintain and record applicable AED, CPR, First Aid certifications as well as required “Heads Up” concussion certifications for faculty, coaches and summer camp employees.
  • Coordinate the “concussion team” to oversee student’s progress to return-to-play and return-to-learn, following concussion injuries. Attend health team meetings as needed.
  • Administer concussion baseline and post injury testing, ImPact, for all student athletes in grades 7-12. Manage the school’s ImPact account and oversee concussion protocol policy.
  • Adhere to and maintain Emergency Action Plans and environmental hazard guidelines.
  • Provide coverage of all practice and home games pre-season through post-season play including set up and break down of water and ice coolers as well as team preparations.
  • Arrange for additional game coverage for days when multiple events are scheduled.
  • Manage and maintain training room and supplies including stocking med-kits, updating AED’s, clean and inventory ice and water coolers.  Order supplies as needed.
  • Provide coverage in school nurse’s office during her lunch break.
  • Teach physical education exercise science class and/or health class as assigned.


  • NATABOC certified.
  • Registered Athletic Trainer with NYSED Office of Professions.
  • AED/CPR and first aid certified, instructor preferred.
  • BS in Athletic Training required.
  • NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist preferred.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills required.
