Middle School Counselor Leave Replacement, Fall 2025

The Nightingale-Bamford School seeks a full time, temporary Leave Replacement Middle school counselor for the academic year 2025-2026. The ideal candidate will be a licensed social worker, psychologist or mental health counselor accustomed to working with Middle School aged students. This position will report to the Head of the Middle School. School counseling experience and NYS license or license eligibility required.  This is a full time, exempt position starting on August 25, 2025 and ending November 14, 2025.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to): 

  • Providing individual counseling and referrals supported by outreach to families where indicated, and coordination with outside clinicians 
  • Crisis management
  • Providing support for student psychological concerns
  • Coordinating with student support team to develop plans of support for students in need
  • Collaborating with advisors, teachers, deans and other administrators
  • Collaborating in design and delivery of SEL education and prevention programs around mental health concerns
  • Support peer leadership/peer group program
  • Collaboration with and support for Upper and Lower School counselors
  • Participating in school community activities and events as needed
  • Attending weekly meetings as a member of the professional community.
  • Performing other responsibilities as required or assigned by the appropriate administrator or supervisor

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Master’s (or doctoral) degree required
  • A minimum of three to five years postgraduate school counselor or other clinical and diagnostic experience
  • Must be New York State licensed or license-eligible school counselor
  • Maintain a good rapport with all constituencies; students, parents and colleagues
  • Strong communication (verbal, written, interpersonal) skills and leadership qualities
  • Demonstrated organization and planning skills; strong attention to detail, as well as follow-through skills to ensure completion of goals and objectives

SALARY RANGE: In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $80,000 - $95,000 (annualized)*. Nightingale considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

*represents an annualized salary. Actual salary will be prorated due to the temporary status of the role.
