The Nightingale-Bamford School is seeking a school nurse to work 4 days per week during the academic year in partnership with our school nurses to support the needs of students and in a K-12 independent school setting. This is an 80% role with benefits.  

The ideal candidate is knowledgeable of best practices and will comply with established procedures and protocols in caring for students with chronic and acute illness, as well as injuries and illnesses that arise during the school day. In addition, the nurse will communicate as needed with families, administrative staff, school counselors, athletic trainers, and fellow school nurses.

The hours of this position will be 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM or from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This is a 0.80, 11 month, exempt position. The part time school nurse is expected to work during the school year starting mid-August August though the end of June. The start date for this position will be August 1, 2024. This position reports to the Chief Administrative Officer.


RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):

  • Administer first aid, emergency and preventative care to students in grades K-12 during the regular school year 
  • Assist in researching, writing, and updating letters to be sent home to parents regarding  communicable conditions 
  • Communicate with division heads, division assistants, and parents regarding repeated and  prolonged student absences 
  • Confer with parents, etc., about special health-related concerns and notify division head when appropriate
  • Assess and evaluate student requests to be excused from physical education; notify the athletics department of excused students including physician notes about the  student’s condition
  • Communicate with athletic trainers regarding student health issues including following concussion protocol 
  • Provide ongoing assessment of the health needs of the Nightingale community. Notify the community about communicable conditions when necessary 
  • Complete and manage accident reports for students
  • Ensure the electronic medical records system is current and up to date
  • Provide safety and medical supplies for all student field trips
  • Attend all employee meetings as requested
  • Work collaboratively with the current nurses (1 full time and 1 part time)
  • Other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrators

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • New York State R.N. Licensure 
  • B.S. or B.A. 
  • C.P.R./AED/First-Aid Certification 
  • One year experience with pediatric experience is preferred
  • Experience in working in a K-12 school setting is preferred
  • Familiarity with NYS Department of Health guidelines for schools is a plus

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $90,000- $100,000. Nightingale considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
