Communications Associate

The Communications Coordinator plays a key role in supporting Nightingale’s communications strategy by creating and distributing engaging content across multiple platforms. This position is responsible for coordinating email communications, supporting storytelling and content creation efforts, maintaining digital platforms, assisting with graphic design and brand management, and capturing photography and video content that showcases the life of the school. The ideal candidate is an organized, detail-oriented communicator with strong writing, design, and project management skills who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Previous experience in a communications or digital content support role is preferred. Familiarity with or experience in independent schools is a plus. This is a full-time, exempt, 12-month position beginning August 1, 2026, and reports to the Director of Communications.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to): 

The responsibilities of the position are outlined below; however, they do not encompass the full scope of the role. As with all members of the Communications Department, this position is also expected to perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Communications, the Associate Director of Communications  and the Chief Communications Officer as needed

Email Communications

  • Coordinate requests from divisional assistants, associate heads, division heads, faculty, and administrative departments to create branded email communications using Mailchimp
  • Manage the external email communications calendar to ensure appropriate timing, spacing, and volume of messages
  • Produce, edit, and distribute the weekly Next at Nightingale newsletter, while helping streamline content collection and production processes
  • Create and manage online registration forms, permission forms, surveys, and other digital forms as needed
  • Monitor and respond to messages sent to the school’s general email accounts and shared communications inboxes, directing inquiries to the appropriate departments or colleagues

Content Creation & Storytelling

  • Draft articles and provide editorial support for the school’s biannual magazine, The Blue Doors, including story development and content generation
  • Collaborate with departments across the school to ensure website content remains accurate, current, and relevant
  • Support the creation, editing, and curation of content for digital and print communications
  • Help maintain a consistent institutional voice and visual identity across all communications platforms
  • Stay informed of emerging social media trends and best practices and assist with content development accordingly
  • Maintain parent and faculty/staff portal pages within Blackbaud, ensuring resources, links, announcements, and information are accurate and up to date

Graphic Design & Brand Support

  • Design and produce a variety of print and digital communications materials, including brochures, invitations, signage, presentations, advertisements, social media graphics, and school publications
  • Support adherence to Nightingale’s visual identity and brand standards across all communications materials
  • Prepare files for print production and coordinate with external vendors and printers as needed

Photography & Video

  • Capture and organize photography and short-form video content from school events, programs, and classroom activities for use on social media, the website, and school publications
  • Maintain and organize digital asset libraries, including Google Drive, SmugMug, Vimeo, and video archives
  • Be available to support occasional last-minute requests for event photography or videography
  • Coordinate with external photographers, videographers, designers, and other creative vendors as needed

Additional Responsibilities

  • Collect and archive printed communications materials and publications produced throughout the school year
  • Provide general support for communications projects and initiatives as assigned by the Associate Director of Communications and Director of Communications
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Communications Office and the School’s mission

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of relevant experience
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Highly resourceful, organized, and attentive to detail
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
  • Proficient in photography and/or videography
  • Experience/interest in graphic design, journalism, or communications
  • Ability to support and execute design projects within established brand guidelines
  • Experience with Google Suite and a variety of social media platforms

SALARY.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, this position's annual salary range is $75,000 - $85,000.  When extending an offer, Nightingale considers factors such as (but not limited to) the position's scope and responsibilities, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, and market and organizational considerations.
