History Teacher - Spring Semester Leave Replacement

The Nightingale-Bamford School seeks a Spring 2025 leave replacement history teacher for the academic year 2024-2025.  We seek an educator who will bring experience, enthusiasm, and a sense of equity to the broad range of courses offered by the department, specifically modern/global and United States history. Qualified candidates will hold an undergraduate degree in history or a related field and at least three years of teaching experience at the middle and/or upper school level. Collaboration in both planning and assessment is central to the work we do within the history department at Nightingale-Bamford. Therefore, candidates will be prepared to work closely within a team. Candidates will possess and communicate high standards for their subject matter and their students, and show a commitment to the best practices of teaching history through ongoing professional development. Our faculty members are expected to value diversity as a source of strength, to commit to equity and inclusion, and contribute to the school community outside of the classroom.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):

  • Teach three History courses; two Upper School and one Middle School, and a possible Debate class for Upper School for additional compensation.
  • Employ best practices of teaching history to provide our students with an excellent experience.
  • Perform duties outside of teaching as assigned by the appropriate administrators.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in history or a closely related field, Master’s preferred.
  • Three to five years of experience teaching history in secondary school or in higher education. In the latter case, the candidate must have additional work experience involving students of high school age.
  • Significant knowledge of U.S. history and modern global history.
  • Experience teaching research and analytical writing skills.
  • Excellent classroom management skills.

SALARY: In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, this position's salary range is $70,000 - $85,000 ($5,833.33 or $7,083.33 monthly). When extending an offer, Nightingale considers factors such as (but not limited to) the position's scope and responsibilities, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, and market and organizational considerations.
