Lower School Counselor

The Nightingale-Bamford School seeks a full time school psychologist or social worker to work in our Lower School Division (K-4) to provide counseling support to students in the division, but also works as a team with the Middle School and Upper School counselors. The Lower School Counselor reports to the Head of Lower School. This position’s primary responsibility is to provide individual counseling and referral for students as appropriate and to coordinate for support with teachers, administrators, parents and outside professionals. The Lower School Counselor will also teach and participate in curriculum development for social emotional learning in the Lower School division and plan and create education opportunities for families. The ideal candidate will be experienced in providing psychological support to a diverse and inclusive community.


RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):

  • Provide individual student counseling, referral and outreach to families
  • Continue to develop and support a robust Lower School counseling program
  • Serve as a member of the Lower School leadership team
  • Lead all SEL curriculum and divisional planning for the Lower School
  • Design SEL education and prevention planning around mental health concerns
  • Coordinate with the student support team to develop plans of support for students in need
  • Crisis management on both the divisional and school levels 
  • Develop parent programming on relevant lower school issues
  • Educate faculty and provide support on student psychological concerns.
  • Participation in school community activities and events such as curriculum night and admissions events, as needed
  • Attend weekly meetings as a member of the professional community
  • Perform other responsibilities as required or assigned by the appropriate administrator or supervisor

 REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree required, doctoral preferred
  • A minimum of four to five years postgraduate school counselor or other clinical and diagnostic experience
  • Must be New York State licensed or license-eligible school counselor
  • Maintain a good rapport with all constituencies; students, parents and colleagues
  • Strong communication (verbal, written, interpersonal) skills and leadership qualities
  • Demonstrated organization and planning skills; strong attention to detail, as well as follow-through skills to ensure completion of goals and objectives

 In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, this position's salary range is $75,000 - $95,000. When extending an offer, Nightingale considers factors such as (but not limited to) the position's scope and responsibilities, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, and market and organizational considerations.
