Spanish Teacher - Leave Replacement 

The Modern Languages Department at Nightingale seeks an enthusiastic, dynamic and collegial teacher of Spanish with native or near-native fluency who can teach a wide range of students at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels in both Upper and Middle School. This is a 5 week, full time, Fall 2024 semester leave replacement starting on November 18, 2024 and ending December 20, 2024. The department’s curriculum values all aspects of language learning, from oral and written expression to informed and ethical approaches to teaching cultural competencies. The ideal candidate for this position possesses a passion for languages and travel and embraces the multiplicity of ways in which language and culture intermingle and negotiate in the complex global environment of the world today. Candidates will possess and communicate high standards for their subject matter and their students, and show a commitment to the best practices of teaching Spanish through ongoing professional development. Our faculty members are expected to value diversity as a source of strength, to commit to equity and inclusion, and contribute to the school community outside of the classroom. 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to): 

  • Teach a full course load (4 classes) in the Upper and Middle Schools
  • Demonstrate a sincere interest in understanding students 
  • Employ best practices of teaching Spanish to provide our students with an excellent experience. 
  • Perform duties outside of teaching as assigned by the appropriate administrators. 
 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; Master’s or PhD preferred. 
  • Three to five years in teaching Spanish at the middle and/or upper school level. 
  • Excellent classroom management skills.

SALARY 

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, this position's FTE salary is $70,000 ($5,8330 monthly). When extending an offer, Nightingale considers factors such as (but not limited to) the position's scope and responsibilities, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, and market and organizational considerations.
